About Cody Solberg, AIA
For CODY SOLBERG, design begins with listening. He believes the most meaningful work grows out of curiosity—asking questions, studying context, and finding a guiding concept that gives a project its voice.
That approach has shaped his path as a licensed architect and DIRECTOR at SMBW in RICHMOND, VA, where he moves fluidly between interiors and architecture while helping guide the firm’s relationships and opportunities. His training at VIRGINIA TECH, where he earned a BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE and a minor in Landscape Architecture, laid the foundation for a practice rooted in both rigor and imagination.
Over the years, Cody has contributed to projects with MARVEL Architects, VMDO, 3North, and Lehman Smith McLeish (LSM), experiences that broadened his perspective and deepened his appreciation for design at every scale.
Today, his work spans workplace, higher education, adaptive reuse, civic, and cultural projects. Whether developing early vision, mentoring emerging designers, or partnering with clients such as Bloomberg, George Washington University, Hourigan, William & Mary, and Harvard, Cody brings a consistent focus: connect ideas with intention, and deliver design that resonates with people and place.
He’s always eager to explore purposeful design, build strong partnerships, and spark conversations about where architecture and interiors are headed next.
